We would like to invite you on a 70 km trekking trip through the mountains of Azerbaijan. During this route, we will hike past the region’s highest mountain villages located in Shahdag National Park. Along the adventure, we will walk on ancient caravan trails, see castles, towers, and ruins, and get to know the local people’s culture, cuisine, and traditions. In addition to the trek, we will also have the opportunity to visit Azerbaijan’s capital city, Baku. The hike is not technical and is suitable even for travelers with limited hiking experience.
Day 1:
Flight from Vilnius to Baku (Heydar Aliyev Airport). Transfer to the hotel and rest after the journey. In the evening, we’ll take a light walk around the city and get our first impressions of Azerbaijan.
Day 2:
This day will be dedicated for Azerbaijan’s capital. Together with a local guide, we will visit the Maiden Tower, the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, the Upland Park, the Flame Towers, the Baku Boulevard, and the Old City. The guide will introduce us to the city’s history, culture, and modern life.
In the evening, we’ll return to the hotel, discuss the upcoming trekking route, and rest before our departure to the mountains.
Day 3:
Early in the morning, we’ll head toward the mountains and begin our hike from the village of Alik, located at an altitude of 1,600 m. We’ll follow the Hapit River to the village of the same name, and after a short rest, continue our ascent toward Khinalig, situated at 2,154 m.
This day’s route covers 12 km, with the highest point reaching 2,500 m. In the evening, we’ll stay overnight in a mountain guesthouse and enjoy delicious local homemade food.
Day 4:
We’ll start the morning with breakfast and continue our trek from Khinalig village (2,154 m). Hiking toward Griz village, we’ll ascend to 2,300 m before descending to 2,000 m by the end of the day.
This will be the longest stage of the trek – about 19 km. On the way, we’ll stop in Galakhudat village for lunch and then follow the Gudialchay Canyon, where we’ll have the chance to see the impressive Gur-Gur Waterfall. In the evening, we’ll stay overnight in Griz village.
Day 5:
After breakfast, we’ll go for a 12 km hike from Griz village (2,020 m) to Grizdahna (1,475 m), reaching a maximum altitude of 2,300 m. Throughout the day, we’ll walk through the scenic Gudialchay Canyon area. After the hike, we’ll return to Griz by 4×4 vehicles, where dinner and rest await us in the familiar guesthouse.
Day 6:
On this day, we’ll take on a 20 km trek from Griz (2,000 m) to Laza (1,700 m), reaching the highest point of 2,700 m. While hiking through the Mikhtöken mountain valley, we’ll enjoy stunning panoramic views before descending to Laza village. Upon arrival, we’ll visit local waterfalls, take a short walk around the area, and spend the night in a guesthouse.
Day 7:
After breakfast in Laza, we’ll begin the final stage of our trek, heading toward Kuzun village. Although this section is shorter – about 7 km – it offers no shortage of breathtaking views.
Upon reaching Kuzun, we’ll symbolically finish our mountain trek and head back to Baku, where we’ll enjoy a well-deserved rest and a farewell dinner together.
