We would like to invite you for an active adventure in the Romanian Carpathians, where mountain hikes blend with legendary places. This trip is a perfect opportunity to experience the undiscovered, less touristy side of Romania. Most of our time will be spent hiking, enjoying breathtaking views, and challenging ourselves. We’ll also have the chance to explore the cities of Brașov and Bucharest and visit the famous Dracula’s Castle. Although the main focus of the trip is hiking, the program also includes getting to know Romanian culture.
Day 1:
Flight from Vilnius to Bucharest. Upon arrival in the Romanian capital, we’ll stop for lunch, where we’ll have the chance to taste the flavors of the local cuisine.
After lunch, we’ll head toward our accommodation near Brașov – a city nestled among the mountains. In the evening, we’ll go over the trip itinerary and rest before our first hikes.
Day 2:
The second day of the trip will be a true introduction to the beauty of the Romanian mountains. Early in the morning, we’ll head to the Bucegi mountain range, famous for its stunning rock formations.
Our goal for the day is to reach Omu Peak (2,507 m), one of the highest points in this range. At the summit, we’ll be rewarded with an unforgettable panorama of the Prahova Valley and the surrounding Carpathian ranges – one of the most breathtaking views in all of Romania.
Day 3:
This day will take us on a hike in Piatra Craiului National Park. We’ll start our route along a forest trail, gradually ascending through lush greenery. As we climb higher, the trees will be gone, revealing magnificent views of the valleys and surrounding peaks. We’ll reach Piatra Mică Peak (1,816 m) – a small but very scenic ridge offering stunning panoramas of the Piatra Craiului massif.
Day 4:
Today’s program includes a lighter, more relaxing day. We’ll visit Bran Castle, better known as Dracula’s Castle, and enjoy a short walk around the area. There will also be an opportunity to explore the historic city of Brașov or visit the Bear Sanctuary nearby.
Day 5:
Our journey continues toward Balea Lake. On the way, we’ll drive along the Transfagarasan Road, which winds through the Făgăraș Mountains and is considered one of the most beautiful roads in the world.
From the lake, we’ll hike to Mircii and Tarata Peaks, located at about 2,400 meters above sea level. More experienced hikers will have the chance to climb Moldoveanu Peak, the highest mountain in Romania, completing a full 28 km route.
Day 6:
After the challenging and long Moldoveanu day, we’ll allow ourselves a bit of rest. Today we’ll visit one of the most spectacular natural attractions near Brașov – the Seven Ladders Canyon.
This narrow gorge features seven metal ladders and bridges that help hikers climb past waterfalls and rock walls. The hike itself is not long or technically difficult.
Afterwards, we’ll return to the Brașov area, where we can enjoy a leisurely walk, admire mountain views, or simply relax. In the evening, we’ll gather for a cozy evening together, with the option of a sauna or dinner in town.
Day 7:
On Friday, we’ll take on one of the most challenging hikes in Romania, with an elevation gain of 1,500 meters. Key points along the trail include:
Plaiul Foii Chalet (849 m) – Șpirlea Refuge (1,440 m) – At Chains – Grindului Saddle (2,195 m). This hike also includes a section with chains for support on steeper parts.
Day 8:
In the morning, we’ll head to the airport. Depending on the flight time, we’ll either go directly there or take some time to explore Bucharest before departure.
