The Azores Islands are known for their stunning natural beauty, unique ecosystems, and its culture. The islands have evolved into a popular destination for eco-tourism, outdoor activities, attracting visitors from around the world. Join this tour to São Miguel, the largest island in the Azores, where natural beauty is everywhere you go. This program offers a mix of scenic hikes, culture, and some time for yourself to relax from your daily life. From volcanic craters and forests to picturesques beaches and the thermal baths in the Atlantic Ocean, every day will bring some unique memories. Whether you’re hiking around iconic lakes, marveling at cascading waterfalls, or spotting whales in the Atlantic ocean, this trip is designed to immerse you in the wonders of São Miguel and give you an idea of the Azores archipelago. We will be staying at a very cozy house with an ocean view and a terrace for bbq.
Day 1:
Flight from Vilnius to Ponta Delgada, rest after the flight.
BBQ diner at home.
Day 2:
We will start the first hiking day in the eastern part of the island. We will have a scenic loop hike near Nordeste. This area has beautiful beaches and sightseeing stops. We will make a coastal hike where we will enjoy views from the ocean.
We will also make a small hike to Poco Azul which is a super beautiful nature pool in the middle of the forest and then we will keep going to the Salto da Farinha waterfall.
Day 3:
On Wednesday we will have one of the most scenic hikes in all Azores. We will have a 20kms loop with 742m of elevation gain around a lake called Das Sete Cidades, a twin lake situated in the crater of a volcano. We will explore the lake for all the angles possible.
After the hike we will have a chance to relax at the Ponta da Ferraria thermal baths that are located directly in the Atlantic ocean.
Day 4:
Azores is the only place in Europe that produces tea. We will start the day with a small 3,4km hike in a tea plantation.
For the second part of the day we will explore more the nature of the island and reach one of the most visited spots in the northern area of São Miguel island: the Salto do Cabrito waterfall. This waterfall, about 40 meters tall, creates a natural pool where you’ll have a chance to swim in. The hike will be 8.5kms long.
Day 5:
On this day we will have an easy day, we will rent a boat and we will go to watch the whales and dolphins at the sea.
For the second part of the day we will visit the capital town of Sao Miguel island Ponta Delgada.
(If you don’t want to go on a boat, there is a possibility to go hiking or do canyoning instead)
Day 6:
On Saturday we will hike around the famous lake in Azores (Lagoa do Fogo) which is originally a crater. We will make a circular 11 kms hike from Praia to the lake. We will have a chance to take great pictures and visit the lake from different angles.
Day 7:
On this day we will do an 8 kms trail to Salto do Prego and Salto do Carragão waterfalls. The route will be scenic and will have an elevation of 500m.
After the trail we will enjoy the rest of our day on the beach relaxing befores tomorrow’s trip.
Day 8:
Flight home or flights to other islands in the Azores.
